The HandCrafted Home
July 7 - July 29
RECEPTION: July 7, 6-8PM
The Hand Crafted Home features ceramics vessels and drawings by Barbara Allen, metal work by artist/blacksmith Rob Caperell, and art quilts by fiber artist Dominie Nash. These three artists come together in one exhibition highlighting the beauty of American Craft for the home.
Barbara Allen's repeating markings act as a visual mantra, creating a sense solace and calm. Her natural patterns, reminiscent of visual biological equations, create a harmony amongst her ceramics, drawings and paintings. Exhibiting for a second time at The Gray Gallery, Barbara Allen has a captivating aesthetic and an impressive background in the arts.
Local artist Rob Caperell uses traditional and contemporary blacksmithing techniques to forge steel into functional and artistic items. The smooth lines that form his signature curves, loops and undulations show a mastery of the still and experience in the medium. With an attention to detail, each piece is thoroughly executed and finished. Rob Caperell's work can often be seen at some of the country's top art fairs.
Dominie Nash collages fabrics, textures and patterns to showcase organic imagery that is precisely composed. Each piece of fabric goes through a unique process including dyeing, painting, printing, chemical resist, and discharge. The surface is then layered with dyed organza, and composed with machine stitching and embroidery. She has been working in the textile arts since the 1960's, has exhibited across the country and has work in a number of notable private and public collections.
